I was born to a hopeful generation. They looked at mixed-race children and saw the future, a promise of unity, of edges blurred into something new.

They didn’t see the cost. A generation of children of nowhere.

Not Black enough for the Black folk.

Not white enough for the white folk.

I learned early to look elsewhere for belonging. To find spaces where your face didn’t set the terms. Where what you carried mattered more than where you came from. I found it in the clean lines of something hard, reflective, and silent. A surface that revealed nothing and held everything. Behind a mask, everyhting falls away. The Performance ends.
